OMEGA Session 01/15/09 - Interview w/ The J. Hexx Project!!

The OMEGA Session 01/15/2009
Interview with The J. Hexx Project from 3rd Shift Entertainment
Conducted by AMKR & Compiled/Edited by CRiNGE

AMKR: What up Killaz?

The J. Hexx Project: Whats up?

AMKR: This is AMKR here with The J. Hexx Project from 3SE & Severd Neverz Music. For those who don't know, what are you all about? Explain J. Hexx? What's your overall concept?

The J. Hexx Project: Well, from a standpoint of humanity, what is it that we all hope to aspire to, even though the pervading thought of death makes us all wonder... what if, my life is what is actually death, and when I then decay into the earth, will I see what life is? The darkness. It's a thing so scary, so unknown. But if you took it and embraced it... Yes, hate spawns from within but I can feel that man, its very true, life is death and death is life. From the decline of your mental state between your early life to the last days of living is what scares us all. Like the WU is. So, if you take it in, and understand we are just speaking of the real horror that is life, twitsted as true horror pop culture, thrown into it with conciousness that is evil and dead, you have me.

AMKR: That's some deep and real shit, man.

The J. Hexx Project: Horror is reality. So as us. We are dark minds that think alike. So we understand the darkness. Yin and yang

AMKR: It's true, to be real, you have to understand the darkness in life, otherwise you're just fooling yourself. Everything is duality.

The J. Hexx Project: Yes.

AMKR: Without duality our brains can't compute.

The J. Hexx Project: Or that? What is the outcome? It's learning that you can hate once, but you will love again. That's the tradgedy of being human. Evil or good we all succumb to mortal feelings of hurt, anger, and the seven sins. So, if I talked about how I thought in a real life situation but use pop horror culture with a hidden conciousness feel, then I can do what I'm doing now. Pop horror. lol.

AMKR: Haha. I wouldn't necesarily say it's "pop horror," although by all instinctual means it should be. Where did you come up with the name The J Hexx. Project?

The J. Hexx Project: The old "Jonah Hexx" comic books. Used the first name, changed it to Jonas. Hexx is being a curse, Jonas was a prophet. The cursed prophet.

AMKR: Blessed and cursed?

The J. Hexx Project: By the name. The project was my project to do something a bit different. That's what this genre needs man! Originality in the way things are done concept wise. It's hard to have nowadays. It took me a long time to understand my "true" self, to express it the way I do.

AMKR: I think that's why you've taken off so quickly. Your music is unique as hell, and you've got some deep concepts and messages. People can feel that.

The J. Hexx Project: The way I say things is the way I feel emotion wise. To make it visual, I make it like a horror film, describe the colors of Darios films - "Suspiria" was a great influence, being articulate with the way things are explained.

AMKR: Meek, yet beautiful, psychedelic and gritty.

The J. Hexx Project: Yes. Like an old grindhouse film. The thrill of watching it, feeling what they feel, you have to make them see it through your own eyes, the sense of impending doom.

AMKR: While we're on the topic, what are some of your favorite horror movies?

The J. Hexx Project: lol. A lot to list. I will name 10: (1) Cannibal Holocaust, (2) Beyond the Darkness, (3) Zombie, (4) Night of the Living Dead, (5) Dawn of the Dead ('79 especially), (6) Maniac (for the dual personality) (7) The Beyond, (8) Last House on the Left, (9) Faces of Death 1-6, (10) The New York Ripper... Fulci is God.

AMKR: Haha. I agree, Fulci was a genious. He knew horror.

The J. Hexx Project: He knew detail. He got me finding out things, how to describe things, how to build that tension. Argento showed me how to be visual, describing it to the last detail. But George A. Romero is by far the most that has influenced me, as well as Tom Savini only 'cause George was really into weaving a social commentary on his films, which is the main thing I do when I think of new concepts, so he schooled me a lot.

AMKR: For sure man, all great music needs a message, even if it's coded, or hidden, by poetic means or otherwise. You've got a couple of albums you're working on, correct?

The J. Hexx Project: Yes.

AMKR: Tell us about 'em. I'm sure all the killaz wanna know!

The J. Hexx Project: Two were probably just announced. lol. Okay, the new album - the name of it is "CONFESSIONS OF A HORROR FANATIC." It was a concept that came to me about two years ago, when me and the producer of the album "VIBE ONE" talked about doing an album together. We talked and I decided to talk a bit of what influenced me to be J. Hexx, so he told me to think of every film I watched growing up as now. I then said, "Okay, what if my life was like a horror film split into different genres of horror? So from there, the presentation will get you to feel like when you first saw those really cool horror posters! Going into a theater, a grindhouse 12am til the morning movie featurette! But it's all based on fact, with a bit of horror in it. Some of it is for visual effect.

AMKR: Facts about your life?

The J. Hexx Project: Yes. What were the influences of my dive into horror? For example, in a song called "THE SILENT CHILDREN OF HORROR" I talk about the first time I saw the exorcist at age three, and it builds from there. The production will be different, too.

AMKR: Different producers? Or just an overall different style you're tryin'?

The J. Hexx Project: I will save the surprises for later. The style of production will be made out of true horror elements. Example: A victim hits a table. Then?? Take it. Make it your own.

AMKR: Sound effects?

The J. Hexx Project: Yes. It's hard to not give it all away. It's only five months away. lol.

AMKR: Hahaha. Don't man! Make them want it! Haha.

The J. Hexx Project: Yeah. But it's gonna be something else,

AMKR: Tell us about the anime concept album, man. I gotta know, that shit sounds INSANE!

The J. Hexx Project: I mean, let's just say this: I was, and still am, a big anime fan. From "Gatcha Man" and "Go Lion" (Voltron), Robotech... and all that. I grew up in the Anime Eighties. I was inspired especially by "Gatcha Man."

AMKR: You a fan of "Akira?" I think thats the sickest anime I've ever seen. Haha.

The J. Hexx Project: "Akira" is sick. Got it on DVD. I saw it in '86, in the movies. I had all the comics I think, but i know i had them.

AMKR: Haha, hell yeah. I rented that shit when I was a little kid. That shit fucked with my head for a few weeks. lol. It was a comic book?

The J. Hexx Project: Yes, before a movie. It had, like, mad issues of sick shit - the movie was the comic.

AMKR: Haha, shows how much I know about anime.

The J. Hexx Project: So now I was like, I always rooted for the bad guys, off subject to make it easy, GI Joe, they were cool, but didn't Cobra kick ass? lol.

AMKR: Hell yeah they did!

The J. Hexx Project: So I made up this character who is a galatic space Annunakki who conquers plantes. But every time he tries to get Earth he fails. So you fell for the dude. He wants to have a conquest taken care of, so he learns how to use the sound of making music. Hahaha.

AMKR: "Lord Berg Katze" a Reptiallian From Planet X? You into conspiracy theories?

The J. Hexx Project: It will be like you're watching a season of an anime show. Lord Berg Katze was a charatcer in "Gatcha Man," the main bad guy. He ran Galactor. They were a planet of hungry aliens who took resources from other planets for their own planet.

AMKR: Haha, I got confused. I was talkin' about the Annuakki.

The J. Hexx Project: But I did throw in some Annunakism in it. Its just a light touch, not much. I'm more focused on the sound and stlye of it.

AMKR: You're really an innovator, man. I never thought I'd get to see a Wicked Shit anime concept album.

The J. Hexx Project: It's to deviate away from horrorcore a litle bit and make it fun, for everyone involved, down to the listener. He might be liked after all, the bad guy. lol. Like, fuck the good guys!

AMKR: Indeed, haha. Fuck 'em.

The J. Hexx Project: I wanna take over the world. lol. Then. HALLOWEEN '09. Kiltcha like, "I need to hear some horror shit then," I'm like, "I have a concept I been thining about for a minute, a new EP. It'll be seven, but I'ma throw in an extra one or two tracks. Called "MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD." It's a horror film short in a sense, a story of love and delusions in a young man's life. He thinks he's a cannibal god. lol. [He] has flashback like effects. Like, he's this Aztec god killing virgins on a mountain, so he switches realities between real and delusional.

AMKR: Like a split personality?

The J. Hexx Project: No, like he's fucking crazy, but wears a mask of sanity. It just breaks loose. It was there, not as strong, so it breaks out, because of love scorned. But the young man won't remember after his delusions. lol. He will be freaking out like us. But it was a chance to make a fictional story and see what I can do, trying to out-do myself, like bulding yourself up.

AMKR: That's what it's all about, man, raising the bar! I got faith in ya, you're crazy with the concepts.

The J. Hexx Project: GOBLIN was a major influence, too. Writing is my passion. Thank you. I was just trying to be appreciated, and have people say, "At least you don't really sound like anyone."

AMKR: No problem, man. You deserve all the props in the world killa. It takes a lot to be yourself, and not someone else in this genre. What exactly is Sevr'd Nervez Music?

The J. Hexx Project: It is my label, created by me just to put out Seven and Twitch. My first CD had to be good. The "Seven Doorz to Death" was a stand-alone EP, finished in 2004. Twitch was started in 2004 and finished the following year, and mastered [in] 2005. I held on to the master for three years. Then, when it was all right, money was right, art was right and fit the project, the style of it... I took it all as art.

AMKR: Were you recording the entire time? Or more just doin' shows and shit?

The J. Hexx Project: Both. Started doing shows in 2002, when I was recording Seven Doorz.

AMKR: Speaking of shows! Any plans of a tour?? I know me and the rest of Junction: OMEGA would love to see ya live, and that goes for all of 3SE.

The J. Hexx Project: Wow. I wish I had the support to do a lot of shows out my state. But without the proper set up, it's hard for me to do without a foundation. I did shows in NY, like Demerraras, the old open mics at end of the week, lyriscist lounge. It was exciting for indie music then. I love shit like Immortal Technique, Arsonists, Necro, Ill Bill, MF Doom, Nas... shit, even Jay-Z. I listen to a lot of old shit, too. Boston, Jefferson Airplane.

AMKR: I can feel that, you gotta respect the roots.

The J. Hexx Project: I just got into Kiss like three years ago. But I went and saw a Slayer show. Oh my God! So I was like, wow, theatrics is a lot . It means a lot. So I was thinking I was bored of the cookie cutter shit.

AMKR: I know, I hate when it's just some dude with a mic pacin' back and forth.

The J. Hexx Project: Like, what is he talking about? What is he saying? Like, it's not all kill, kill, kill. It's all about the thought and the feelings before the thought of murder becomes an action. That's where the real horror is. Yes, just 'cause you might feel that way doesn't mean youre gonna kill someone just 'cause you feel that way, but I will damn sure make you feel something. The thought is Hell itself.

AMKR: Everyone needs a vent. Some people jog, some people rap about killing people. You know, haha. How did you hook up with 3rd Shift Entertainment? It seems like you came out of left field, I'm suprised I hadn't heard of you before you got signed! Had you known there was such a community/scene for The Wicked Shit?

The J. Hexx Project: Well, I knew it was there. I just wasn't too sure how deep it was. I was indie. Def Jux, Psycho Logical, Cannibal Ox, I came up listening to that. So I was so into it, the aspect of what was to become was the inspiration to draw attention. You have a signature thing that no one else has like yourself,  personailty, if you will. So you draw your own world and build it for those to just fall in it, and also draw resemblances in their own lifes. Sevrd Nervez Music is my own pain, my nervez being severed to the music my heart makes. Without me going for the heart, how can you feel what I feel? So, I know that in America there're others that feel like me, that think like me. So we are dark minds that think alike, embracing the darkness, like you and I are doing now. lol.

AMKR: Exactly, my friend. Haha.

The J. Hexx Project: Taking in the dark aspects of life and doing something constructive as building a world for others to enjoy makes me happy. It's entertainment.

AMKR: In my opinion, one of the most ancient forms of entertainment. Look at the colesseum in Rome, the guillotine in France. People love death, whether or not they want to admit it. It's like an instinctual, dirty little secret.

The J. Hexx Project: lol. In my life, it's a way to be positive. Instead of me being in your face killing you, I'm making music. lol.

AMKR: Hahaha. They should be happy, right?

The J. Hexx Project: I love music. It really calms the soul of a beast. I love it all. It's the fact of being an artist and showing mad respect for other artists who do the same thing and beyond.

AMKR: You are also a writer and director, correct? "Horrorgoria" is a giant DVD of your work? I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but we're gonna review the shit out of it soon. I'm pumped to see it.

The J. Hexx Project: Well, I collaborated on them with my good friends John Vinazza, Dawn Dubriel and others. A group of very talented peole in my circle of friends. I love them all. They are great people. Me and the owner of Underlab, Jon Vinazza, who's also an avid hip-hop head, and go-to man for everthing. He decided with me to put out stuff I did. I told him he should put out some of his work. He directed the video for Schizo Killjoy and edited it, and shot it, directed it. Visually, it was his idea, but he was inspired by the music, so it was a great collaboration. He wanted to do it. We worked on "Cut Your Hand on the Good Book" first.

AMKR: ["Schizo Killjoy"] That video is nuts!

The J. Hexx Project: Dude is dope. And thank you. Jon would thank you, too.

AMKR: No problem, man! I love the versatility. I can truely say you're one of the most original artists to come out of this Wicked Shit in a long time. I love to see other artists with real vision!

The J. Hexx Project: Thank you, AMKR. Junction: OMEGA gets props, too!

AMKR: Haha, thanks man!

The J. Hexx Project: There's enough of us good artists in the Horrorcore scene. I feel we should really get together and try to make horrorcore a better place to be at.

AMKR: I completely agree, man! We need the unity.

The J. Hexx Project: So, I hope in the efforts of me doing what I do I inspired enough people, whether its three, four, or 400 people, to go and write the illest shit you wrote, make the illest beats you can make - let's turn it up a knotch. The bar is too low. It's time for the next generation, man. I need to not be able to reach it, only slightly.

AMKR: Exactly. We need to raise the bar, and realize that it can be so much deeper than it is now.

The J. Hexx Project: I feel a lot of cats in Horrorcore I could name. Wow, it's hard to narrow it down. There's so many unexplored concepts, and a complete lack of complexity in most artists. I tell you what, I would love to do an album with Bloodshot and Komatose, a concept album.

AMKR: Now that would be SICKNESS!

The J. Hexx Project: We are all masked or concealed freaks. I love it. It would really make peole say "Whaaa???"

AMKR: You should really make that happen, man
.
The J. Hexx Project: Yes, you heard it here.

AMKR: You guys all have kinda like your niche sound, and trademark voices/character. It would be INSANE. Haha.

The J. Hexx Project: I just think the seriousness needs to be exhibited in a job like that. It's like bombing Hiroshima all over again. I'm melting... aaahhh!!!

AMKR: Muahaha!

The J. Hexx Project: Seriously, though, it would be fire. Just my thoughts.

AMKR: Indeed. SKR, 3SE, KILTCHA & SICK - I KNOW YOU'RE READIN' THIS!!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN! J. HEXX, KOMA & BLOODSHOT!! Haha.

The J. Hexx Project: Chamber is producing "Moutain of the Cannibal God," Vibe One is doing "CONFESSIONS OF A HORROR FANATIC."

AMKR: That's the shit. Chamber is crazy on the production tip. Who is Vibe One?

The J. Hexx Project: Oh, he's dope. He came up with a totally different production style for my new album. He was like, "Gimme your movies!" I sat there with him for hours over the details.

AMKR: See, now thats dedication!

The J. Hexx Project: Take a bump on a table, for example. Thats your TR 808 without the 808's. So I am not using standard instruments for Confessions - you heard it first.

[b]AMKR:[b] Lots of sampling?

The J. Hexx Project: Samples are still a go, but it's the percussions. Yes, to reflect my vision, AKA the films I grew up to. But really obscure stuff. You have to be a horror fan to know where I took shit from. For example, ever seen a film called "Pieces" or "Necromantik?" Hahaha.

AMKR: HELL YEAH! Necromantik is my shit! I'm a horror movie freak, too, man. Hahaha. If I haven't seen somethin' your talkin' about, I want to.

The J. Hexx Project: Great shit. Well, it involves sampling, but it doesn't end there. It's actually changing the sound to be percussions, so the kicks you hear you won't hear anywhere else, or know where it's from, unless you take a microscope and study it.

AMKR: Can't get any more origianl than that.

The J. Hexx Project: It's never been done. IT IS THE FIRST HORRORCORE ALBUM TO BE MADE STRICTLY FROM HORROR FILMS ITSELF! NO TR 808's, NO BASSLINES, NO PROTOOLS SHIT. I use ProTools, but this album is the only Horrorcore album made entirely from horror films and sound effects from the last thirty-two years of horror!

AMKR: Just horror movies, wow. I didn't think that was possible. Haha! That's some crazy shit.

The J. Hexx Project: Vibe was the one with the concept, production wise. He knew it was never done before in this manner for our genre.

AMKR: That's genius. I can't believe no one's thought of that before.

The J. Hexx Project: I decided to be the one, to try my best to present it, as a gift to the listeners who were bitching there aint no more originality. Eat those ass crackers! lol.

AMKR: Haha. I know you'll freak it.

The J. Hexx Project: I want it to be a total mind fuck, seriously. So I am kinda letting you in my own personal "CONFESSIONS OF A HORROR FANATIC."

AMKR: You want it to destroy peoples realities? If only for a second?

The J. Hexx Project: Yes. Just in the moment. Things peole don't talk about as much. Animal mutilations, thinking of killing or suicide, being in your darkest moment, to my happiest. All moments in life.

AMKR: I know EXACTLY what you mean! THAT IS OUR SHIT! You've made me realize throughout this interview that we're really kindred spirits, brother. This is exactly the type of shit we talk about all the time. Craziness, the darkest of taboos.

The J. Hexx Project: You're welcome. I have been wondering if this can be a phenominon, that with the help of everyone in this genre, by making better music, we can make this become something special. It's not all me, it involves you and everyone else. We all have a job to do. Let's destroy it now, okay? lol.

AMKR: EVERYONE! **********! WE MUST RISE AND UNITE! TO DESTROY THE MASSES!

The J. Hexx Project: I am a person who is not afraid to show unity, no matter religion. We are all equals, so I hope that I can make music for people to enjoy. That is what makes me happy at the end of the day.

AMKR: Any plans for more movies or music videos? Another DVD, perhaps?

The J. Hexx Project: Hopefully, yes. Right now I am on the first one, and I would like to know how to improve quailty of my releases and make it better the next time around. I think of the fans. I think, if I was to buy this, what will make me like it? So I am not biased. Everyone has their opinions and I know not everyone will like me, but those who do will say they enjoyed it.

AMKR: At the end of the day, man, don't we make music for ourselves, and hope other people like it? It's therapuedic. Not to say it's not for the fans, 'cause they're the shit!

The J. Hexx Project: Yes, I make music for me, but also Imake it for others to like it, too, if they think like me.

AMKR: Exactly.

The J. Hexx Project: Dark minds think alike. lol. Get it?

AMKR: Hell yeah. Since its kinda my staple question I gotta ask, what's your favorite kinda weed!?

The J. Hexx Project: Wow, I love it all. All of it. lol.

AMKR: I can feel that, haha.

The J. Hexx Project: Even other fun stuff... lol.

AMKR: 'Cept the Brown Frown, man.

The J. Hexx Project: Yeah, but when shit is dry you kinda give in for a day. lol.

AMKR: Haha. Now that's a true pothead mentality!

The J. Hexx Project: Movies - especially horror - was my staple 'till now. I was renting them far back, when I was about nine or ten years old. Parents were like "You can handle this?" and I'm shaking my head yes. lol. Wait 'till late, it would be dark... I would watch into like 12am.

AMKR: Haha. Did you do the ol' peek threw your fingers when someone was about to get slaughtered?

The J. Hexx Project: No, watched it straight, at night.

AMKR: Hell yeah!

The J. Hexx Project: It kinda was freaky, when I was young.

AMKR: I remember being terrified of horror movies, but I watched them like a fiend. I think we just love to be scared as a species.

The J. Hexx Project: You know, being three under the sheets at night. lol. Scared out of your mind.

AMKR: Hell yeah, old school style.

The J. Hexx Project: lol, I got used to it. It was like being desensitized. So you want that new thrill. That's what I'm trying to do now.

AMKR: I look at it as more being sensitized to the fact that nothing in this world truly makes sense. The taboos, et cetera.

The J. Hexx Project: Civilization in the structure sense is a taboo, the way we have so many different reasoning skills, too much to mention. How the wrong two can be ugly. But there are civilized folks, it just aint the ones who pulls strings. lol.

AMKR: Truth.

The J. Hexx Project: We just are subjected to brutality, even watching an episode of Oprah.

AMKR: Or the NEWS!

The J. Hexx Project: It's insane, you're right. Go to Canada - no negative NEWS. Only in America, baby. lol. We censor shit to a degree.

AMKR: In a world built of lies, you can only look inside, my friend. We are a terror-driven society. Domestic Terrorism is everywhere.

The J. Hexx Project: Fear is what drives us all to do the fucked up things we do. What you don't know, you fear, like the darkness, which was what inspired "KATZ EYEZ."

AMKR: That's a sick track.

The J. Hexx Project: Thanks, I use it as an anthem for the Wicked Underground acts who are struggling like me to be heard in Horrorcore. It's about being known and not feared, because they embrace you. They accept you as you are, so you feel less tension.

AMKR: And the end result is the overcoming of fear. Fear becomes happiness.

The J. Hexx Project: Yes, so in a grand scale of concepts, I'm going to change, like, into a whole new thing, still influenced by horror, just more down-to-earth and real, while maintaining the horror sound and style.

AMKR: Change is key. Otherwise redundancy ensues. I know you'll freak it no matter what the concept, man.

The J. Hexx Project: It's gonna always be J. Hexx. No name change or anything. It's a progression of me being a concept into a real person. That's how a concept will be, and now that I think of it, I hope it raises the bar a bit. In the end, you will all get it as one big story, some fiction. The realer stuff is later, like real down-to-earth shit. Like, this is why I became the J. Hexx Project, and now that I did a few albums, it's time to really tell you how it was to live it, and what my thoughts were watching the listeners.

AMKR: Now you can really begin your metamorphosis.

The J. Hexx Project: Yes, when they see I'm just like them, as morbid and crazy as it might seem now, all I'm doing is telling the world the thoughts we dont air out in public, all the thoughts you keep between yourself. lol. Your evil and good sides, the conciousness, if you will.

AMKR: The parts you didn't even want to know about yourself. Muahaha!

The J. Hexx Project: Yes.

AMKR: The true conciousness.

The J. Hexx Project: Yes! Like, what are you thining, fucker?? lol. It doesn't mean you will kill, it doesn't mean you will do it, but you sure will feel that way, and that's the integral thing about Sev'rd Nervez Music.

AMKR: It goes to show that anyone can snap, but it takes will power to overcome and persevere.

The J. Hexx Project: Emotions are strong, yes, you humble yourself, and the little things matter.

AMKR: That's what lifes about man. Well, I'm all outta questions, any shout-outs or announcements?

The J. Hexx Project: Well, I thank Kiltcha and 3SE for helping me out. Highly appreciated. To ignited, I wish you the best and much sucess.
